About Tejaswini Ankam

Tejaswini Ankam, known as TJ at Jombone, is a Principal Engineer who plays a key role in shaping and evolving Jombone’s technology. Her work spans software architecture, product development, cloud infrastructure, search, performance, and technical leadership. She particularly enjoys the kind of problems that require stepping back, understanding all the moving pieces, and figuring out how they fit together.
TJ’s journey into technology wasn’t exactly planned. She started her career in tech shortly after university and quickly discovered that she enjoyed solving problems and constantly learning something new. Over the years, that curiosity has grown into a passion for tackling challenging engineering problems and building technology that can grow alongside the business.
Since joining Jombone, TJ has grown alongside the company and its technology. She has helped build and evolve key parts of the platform, led complex technical initiatives, and mentored developers along the way. One of her proud moments at Jombone was receiving the “E-Cube: Empress of Engineering Excellence” award.

Her experience at Jombone has also taught her that engineering is about much more than code. Understanding the customer, the business problem, and the impact of a solution is just as important as deciding how to build it. Even after years in technology, TJ enjoys that there is always something new to learn. Whether it’s AI, distributed systems, or a new engineering challenge, she enjoys understanding how things work beneath the surface and finding better ways to solve problems.

Outside work, TJ enjoys traveling, doodling, gardening when the Canadian weather allows it, a good beer, and watching movies and shows from around the world. Most of all, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is usually the quiet one in the room, until the sarcastic commentary begins.

Fun Facts

What’s a problem you could happily spend hours trying to solve?
Anything with complex layers that I can break down piece by piece, especially technology and scaling problems. I know I’ve found an interesting one when the notebook and pen come out.
What’s something about you that surprises people when they first get to know you?
I’ll try my hand at almost anything, from tech problems to gardening or fixing things around the house. Cooking is probably where I draw the line.
If you weren’t working in technology, what career would you choose?
Probably something behind the scenes in the creative or entertainment world. I’m fascinated by what goes into large-scale concerts and sporting events, and I’d love more time for doodling and other creative pursuits.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
A night owl. The world is a little calmer when everyone else is asleep.
What’s one thing currently on your bucket list?
To travel as much of the world as I can. My whole family loves traveling, so it’s more about discovering new places and making memories together than one particular destination.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
It changed almost every year: advocate, police officer, pop star, artist. I clearly had no shortage of career plans. Somehow, technology won.
