Workplace Health and Safety in the Face of COVID-19

Humanity is collectively going through a hard time in the face of COVID-19. Whether you’ve been directly or indirectly affected, the pandemic has changed all of our lives. To keep each other safe, there’s a few things we can do to ensure workplace health and safety remains bullet proof.

Let’s cover the basics.

Wash and sanitize regularly.

As workers, we use our hands frequently, whether it’s lifting and transferring items to typing on a keyboard. Those fingers of ours get around, which is why it’s extra important to wash your hands throughout the day or regularly sanitize continuously! Reducing the spread of germs is the key to maintaining a happy, healthy, safe workspace.

Don’t forget:

  • Wash your hands with water and soap for a minimum of 20 seconds, and don’t forget the backs of your hands, wrists, between fingers, and even under fingernails!
  • Use a sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, and rub it in until your hands are completely dry.
Mask it up!

If you mentioned wearing a face mask as an everyday accessory two years ago, everyone would think you’re nuts! But, today, this is so incredibly important. COVID-19 is an airborne disease, and to limit that spread, we have to limit the reach of our breath.

An experiment using a high-speed video found hundreds of droplets ranging from 20-50 micrometres were produced when saying a small phrase, but nearly all droplets were blocked when the mouth area was covered with a mask

The more we wear those masks now, the less we’ll have to wear them later. So keep those around you safe, and store away that smile for a while.

Feeling under the weather?

If you start to feel sick or find yourself feeling the early signs of COVID-19 start to creep in, don’t panic! Simply inform your supervisor or manager about your situation and stay home. Your health matters, and by taking care of yourself, you’re prioritizing workplace health and safety.

COVID-19 is no joke, and neither is your health. Wash your hands, throw a mask on, and stay home when you can. We’re in this together, and the battle ends sooner when we all work as a team!
